God’s Choice. Nhan Le’s story
I remember the fear. I remember the name calling and I remember the uncertainty as the Australian Government assisted the Vietnamese boat people to arrive and assimilate into our communities. Now 35 years later, we hardly give a thought to those people not fitting in and they are becoming as invisible as the Italians, Greeks and Lebanese who preceded them.
I wanted to make a short story about one boat person’s journey and the values he has brought with him. For me this is personal. Among the many things Nhan has done as a priest is to administer to me The Last Rites. This year he celebrated the marriage ceremony for my youngest daughter.
